SPRING INTO
FITNESS WITH MAGGIE
I don’t know about the rest of you,
but I woke up from my long winter’s nape several pounds
heavier than I was in the Fall. You too? Good, misery
loves company.
At any rate, with a swimsuit season
coming up, it’s time to shed those winter pounds and
it’s always easier with support. So why not sign up for
my health and fitness email list and share your tips,
ups, downs, frustrations and successes with everyone
there. It’s fun and it’s free and no one tries to sell
you anything.

I tried a two-day fasting program
from Beachbody.com (you drink three shakes a day and eat
nothing else for 48 hours) to kick start things. I
don’t know how much I lost, but I also tried working out
brutally at the same time. Day one was fine, though I
did eat dinner cause I was with someone else for dinner
and it would have been rude not to. I did a 77 minute
workout that was killer, but fun, and then I had to
clear the spring snow from my driveway. Day two was
awful. I tried to work out and could barely pick up my
legs. Had no energy whatsoever and was starved all
day. I finally made myself some eggs before bed because
my body needed protein, and two slices of toast for
carbs, just to keep from getting ill.
I think the fasting program will
work better for me if I do it one day at a time and make
that a day where my workout is a gentle one, like maybe
some yoga and a long walk. A 24-hour fast is, for me,
better than a 48-hour fast. And who knows, maybe I’ll
get good at that and be able to do 48 hours later on. I
do think fasting is a good thing to do once in awhile,
(if medical conditions are ideal, of course.) It
cleanses, detoxes, and makes you burn some fat stores
you might not get down to otherwise. You just need to
be sure you have nourishment and don’t make yourself
sick. I figure I’ll try a 24-hour fast periodically and
I haven’t decided how often yet. Once a week? Every
other week? Or once a month? It’ll be one of those and
will probably vary. I’ll post an update.
Today I’m feeling better—energized
and light. Though I’m sticking to my practice of
weighing in only once a week, so again I don’t know.
Today I intend to eat light, go for a run if it gets
warm enough or do another workout indoors if not, and at
some point, enjoy the sunshine, always a healthy thing
to do. I’m taking my vitamins and supplements and St.
John’s Wort (to ward off depression) religiously and
really feeling a difference.

My daughter Lisa just recently
started selling Mary Kay products, and so I placed an
order from her just to show support. Let me tell you
how impressed I was!
I’ve been concerned about the
delicate skin underneath my eyes for some time now. I
talked to a surgeon, even, but it’s too close to the eye
itself to risk laser or any sort of injections to plump
that skin up. Lately it seems thinner, and I can see
veins now and then. I have tried everything,
everything, believe me, from every eye cream made to the
model trick of using Preparation H to shrink the swollen
veins.
But now I’ve found something that
works better than any product I’ve tried so far.
It’s Mary Kay’s Age Fighting Eye
Cream.
It actually made the veins vanish,
and plumped the skin, moisturized and took away that
tired look I get when I’m really—well—tired! The stuff
is the best I’ve ever found. I would order the
industrial strength drum if they made it available.
I loved the products I got, and I’ll talk about another
here at the next update!
